Georgia Tech – Engineered Biosystems Building
About Project
Georgia Tech’s Engineered Biosystems Building or EBB at roughly 220,00 square feet was built to create a space within which multiple engineering/scientific disciplines can collaborate. The intent is to promote interaction between chemists, engineers, biologists and computational scientists from two separate Colleges, the College of Engineering and the College of Science. The building houses laboratories, support space and a specialized research facility.

This project features a custom perforated zinc profile panel as vertical sunscreen. The 12″ zinc panels has two perforation patterns within a single panel to provide more screen on the skyward facing sides of the panels and less screening in the vertical vision areas of the wall panels. These screen wall panels provide a very distinct and striking look to the building; the use of natural metals, such as the Zinc in a graphite gray, the look of these screens will be enhanced as the metal weathers and a patina forms.
In addition to the zinc screen wall panels, PPC provided the Flush profile panels that trim the upper and lower fascia along the curtain areas. At the punch opening windows, PPC installed accent panels and sunshades. The penthouse is clad in several complimentary metal components – profile (ribbed) wall panels, louvers, translucent wall panels, and aluminum plate panel accents.
