I-10 Rest Area East and West Renovations

The renovation of these two interstate highway rest areas incorporated several individual canopies supported by concrete piers. The desired aesthetic was achieved by varying the height of adjacent canopies and having a single structural connection to the concrete pier.

Concrete Pier Supported Canopy – 7,500 s.f.

A “tree-shaped” aluminum beam and tube framing system is utilized to route water from the deck to PVC drain pipes that are cast into the concrete piers. By varying the height of adjacent canopies and with sufficient overlap pedestrians are assured of substantial shelter from the elements.
