KSU Recreation and Activity Center
About Project
The KSU Student Recreation and Activity Center project encompasses roughly 176,000 square feet. Combining a small portion of renovated space with the new construction, the facility features progressive architecture with modern components and finishes. Aggressive sloped roof lines, complex angled transitions and sloped glazing set this building apart from other buildings on campus. The main gallery features massive 60′ tall ACM wrapped sloped columns that pass through the 2nd floor. Field measurement of the substrates was accomplished using a Faro 3D scanner, which has since become PPC’s main resource for obtaining field dimensions. This tool made it possible for PPC to fabricate the ACM panels with seamless transitions between various angles and building components interaction.

ACM panels installed across multiple sloped roof and wall elevations. Panels make multiple angled transitions from fascia to soffit and soffit to wall panels. ACM transitions at interactions between soffit and fascia panels to curtain wall elevations. Large sloped structural columns on the interior were covered with roll formed ACM column covers. ACM Glaze-In panels were custom designed to be flush with the face cap of the curtain wall. Panels were also designed to be installer friendly as glazing was accomplished with a standard 1/4″ glazing adapter. Petersen Profile Panels were used at unseen low roof elevations as a VE alternate to ACM in these locations. Perforated Profile panels are used as mechanical screen wall, hiding the large chillers from view.
ACM Panels – Kynar paint in Reynobond’s standard Champagne Metallic Color
Profile Panels – Kynar paint in Petersen Aluminum’s standard Metallic Silver
ACM Panels – Reynobond’s 4MM FR Core ACM, PPC’s ES-600 – Exposed Sealant System.
Profile Panels – Petersen’s exposed fastener 7.2 ribbed profile panels installed over 2″ Z-furring and rigid insulation.
Perforated Profile Panels – Petersen’s exposed fastener 7.2 ribbed profile panels, perforated with 40% open area.
