Novelis – Global Research & Technology Center

Novelis, a world leader in producing aluminum products for applications such as beverage cans, automobiles, consumer electronics and architecture, established this full-service research and technology laboratory in Kennesaw, Georgia. In re-configuring an existing industrial space, Lord Aeck Sargent Architects chose a canopy constructed from a combination of extruded aluminum, glass and pre-painted aluminum sheet product to accent the entrance to the facility.

Custom Entrance Canopy – 550 s.f.

The entrance canopy is suspended from structural steel and employs traditional extruded aluminum gutter beams and deck which has integral drainage. The steel and aluminum structure is clad with metal panels from Novelis’ FF2 pre-painted aluminum sheet stock. The canopy ceiling is a combination of Hunter Douglas’ Deep Box Series soffit system and tempered glass.

On the FF2 panels the finish Kynar is Novelis’ Clearky Silver and Graphite Metallic colors. The finish on the extruded aluminum components is Clear Anodize and the finish on the soffit panels is Hunter Douglas’ standard painted finish in their Natural color.
